Here is a tropical palm bearing fruit high up near its top. This is most likely a Fiji Palm (Veitchia Joannis) although it could also be a Veitchia Arecina from Vila, New Hebrides. Hard to tell. It is easy to take photos, and much harder to say for sure what it is that you are looking at.

ReplyDeleteI really like the photograph and first thing I wondered or asked myself if those are thorns around the nuts.
ReplyDeleteNo, they are stems from which the nuts hung. This is what it looks like when the nuts fall off. The ground is full of ripened red nuts that fell down. If you click to see the high resolution photo again, you can see that there are two brunches, one is about done, but the other one in the background is full of flowers that will become the next load of red nuts.
