Miami's clouds

If you were a few thousand feet above ground, this is what Miami may look like to you. These are cumulus clouds that look beautiful under the sun light. Trust me, Miami is right underneath.

Boar's Head

The Publix grocery store here sells lots of deli supply for people to make sandwich at home. They sell the Publix brand and the Boar's Head brand. Boar's Head wins hands down as it is much more popular although it costs more. That's my brand.

Steak a GoGo

Well, you asked for it... Here is how things go inside Texas de Brazil, when they come to feed you with red meat. You see the green token on the lower left of the photo? Don't you think these two men are both happy?

Cinema at Miami's Dolphin Mall

The Dolphin Mall is just North West of the Miami International airport. This is a look at its multiple theater cinema center. I only come here to visit my steak supplier friends and not to watch movies.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

I never would have thought that Continental airline is still in operation. Lo and behold, here is an entire hub of planes sporting its logo. So, they are still in business. Actually, Continental merged with United in May 2010 with a price tag of about US $3 billion, displacing Delta as the largest airline company.

Merciless

This used to be a flower shop store on US-1, near the Datran center. That did not last long. Now it is a new cigar store. With the new trend prohibiting public smoking almost everywhere... I don't think cigar chomping will be looked upon kindly. So, what's the scoop here?

Texas de Brazil

I like steak and this is my favorite place above all. They give you a token red on one side and green on the other. If you leave it on green, they keep feeding you with various cuts of meat until you give up and turn the token to red so they stop torturing you. I may show you what it looks like some day.

Florida's Best

This sign says that 5 Guys was rated best in Florida in 2008 and 2009. I'm not so sure, just because I really miss Fuddrucker, and I think it's better over there.

All You Can Add

After you ordered your meal at Betty's Best Burgers, you can add the condiment of your choice to your hearts' content. Me? I usually load my buns with sauerkraut. So yummy with your burgers it makes me salivate.

Post Office

It's hard to avoid long lines at our local post office like this Tuesday morning. I can never understand why it only takes but a few short minutes to finish what I need to do here, but the other people seem to linger on for an eternity doing I do not know what.

Tiny Bromeliads

I have these beautiful dwarf bromeliads growing on the trunks of many trees or in small baskets. They faithfully bloom several times a year. Today, this fellow is showing its colors.

Best Burgers

There is a new kid on the block in the burger war. "Five Guys!" By coincidence, I usually count five guys making their very tasty (and sloppy) hamburgers. They post signs claiming they serve the best burgers money can buy and I tend to agree. Just look at the line today. The portion of hand cut fries are from Idaho potatoes. If you eat here, you can get all the free broiled peanuts you can handle. Beware if you are allergic to peanuts.

Shorty's

There is a large crowd today at Shorty's. When I feel blue, I come here to eat. The ribs are very tasty and quite reasonable that usually cost less than an arm and a leg.

Armed To The Teeth

Large stores such as the grocery store Publix have lots of cash at the end of the day and that is very tempting to daring individuals who want to get rich quick. The solution is these armed to the teeth and hardened to the max trucks that can easily withstand an Iraqui IDE. Inside, guards carry guns too... so don't even think about it.

Sports Grill

Miamians really like to eat out a lot. In response to that demand, there are grills almost at every corner. This is a rather new "Sports Grill" on US-1.

Maru

After selling the chicken wings, I returned to walk around the art exhibits the next day. Maru impressed me the most with her beautiful Acrylic On Brass art. In her words, she "displays fervent feelings and whimsical arrangements by sculpturing brass strips on a brass sheet brought to life by the addition of vibrant acrylic colors." Very Picasso-ish to me! The center piece of her display is this beautiful "Love," depicting a woman and a man intertwined. If I had that kind of money, I would have bought this for myself, yeah right... Dream on! Maru, here is a free ad for you:

Bruce's Wings

Beginning today, there is a two day Beaux Arts show at the University of Miami. Accompanying the hopeful sale of beautiful artworks from the local artists, there are all sorts of food. Here is a totally amateurish chicken wing set up to raise money for charity. I know this well because I volunteered to sell these wings. A bit pricey at $5 for a mere 4 wings! We threw in two legs of celery and a square of blue cheese to entice the hungry buyers. I got to eat two free leggy wings for the hard 2 hour of work I put in.
