Main Highway

A beautiful afternoon in Coconut Grove... except that a tree trimming crew blocks half of the narrow 2 lane Main Highway, creating a 10 minute wait for cars on each side sharing the remaining one sided road. That is largely tolerable because driving here is so pleasurable, among the beautiful banyans and royal poincianas, some still with late scarlet flowers.

Coconut Grove Arts Festival

Today is the last day of the 49th Annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival scheduled for February 18 - 20 of this year. Because this is US' Presidents Day holiday (George Washington's birthday,) many have the day off and the Arts Festival is jam packed. I was thoroughly impressed with many of the art displays. The Coconut Grove Arts Festival is among the best of Miami’s annual arts and cultural events. It has more than 150,000 visitors each year who come to see and buy the works of over 330 artists who come from many countries. Many are oh so talented and their works of art have price tags in the tens of thousands of dollars. Beautiful, creative and some exquisite, many are quite expensive but their displays are truly a feast for the eyes that is well worth the admission price which was $10.

Sailing Around

What can be better than to say goodbye to March sailing around in Biscayne Bay? If you were doing just that, this is a view you would have seen.

Boat Shuttle

This is a view of Biscayne Bay from the Coconut Grove Sailing Club. You can see sail boats anchored to rental buoys marked by the white spherical floats. A boat shuttle carries the boat owners to/from their boats. To request a ride back to shore, an air horn is blasted and hopefully the shuttle boat captain can hear it. That shuttle boat is seen here unloading its passengers to the left of the photo.

Main Highway

This is Coconut Grove "downtown," at the end of Main Highway, merging to Grand Avenue straight ahead and McFarlane Road to the right leading to the marina. This is a great place to hang around in this time of the year. The weather is just perfect.

After Work

A typical street scene in Coconut Grove. Even on a Monday like today, after work, you can find joggers running to stay in shape. Banyan trees are everywhere in Coconut Grove and their roots are so destructive, yet so seductive!

Easy Living

This looks like a nice place to live. It is adjacent to Peacock park (in the foreground) in Coconut Grove. The huge terrace overlooks the ocean and people living here have a terrific view of Dinner Key. It is also an ideal place to watch the Miami tropical sunset and star gazing at night.
