Cocos nucifera

Miami is not complete without its coconut trees. Here is a "Lethal Yellowing Disease" resistant tree with its trademark yellow nuts. Deliciously cold exotic drinks make you want to climb up these trees and the cocos nucifera are everywhere here.

Growing up in Miami in the 60's and 70's I remember the place was just full of these. There were actually many in the sandy part of Miami Beach at that time. It was beautiful. Then a blight hit around the middle '70s and most died off. . . Thanks for the memories.

Living in Sydney people sometimes ask me "Don't you get sick of that blue sky all the time?" I bet you get the same!

My answer: "NO, never!"

Yes, Sally. Same answer here. What's more: I need the blue sky to function. The gray sky is the primary reason I left Paris years ago. Miami does have gray skies once in a blue moon. Read this.

Hmm, so how does one tell the difference from a tree with LY and a normally healthy yellow tree? Are the coconuts safe if they're yellow?
